Remember:
The choice of a wheeled mobility supplier is yours. So be certain to get the information you need to make the right decision.

Isn’t Rehab seating part of the Home Medical Equipment (HME) industry?

Rehab seating is a tiny percentage of the overall wheelchair market. It is an even smaller percentage of the Home Medical Equipment market in which National Seating & Mobility (NSM) is categorized.

Our service is highly distinguishable from the other wheelchair and home medical equipment providers in this category in that we are entrusted with long-term, extended care for our patients - not a short-term equipment sale. Virtually all of our chairs are custom-designed, because they must meet the needs of the most severely physically challenged, with the greatest majority of these being children.

What kind of insurance coverage do you accept?

We accept payment from a vast number of payer sources, including Medicaid and Medicare. For specific information about payer sources, contact the NSM branch office in your area (click here for NSM office locations).

How do I get a wheelchair from NSM?

National Seating & Mobility is a member of your rehab healthcare team.We work with your physician, nurses and therapists to provide the most appropriate seating and mobility equipment for your particular therapeutic need.

Because we work in a partnership with your healthcare professionals, we require a referral from them in order to be your wheelchair provider. To help ensure your choice of National Seating & Mobility, you should request that your physician and/or therapist select us as your provider of choice.

Can I get a cost-free scooter from NSM like on TV?

In order for NSM to be your provider, you must be referred by a therapist or physician. We do not advertise or make offers to provide free equipment. We will work with your payer source, including Medicare and Medicaid, to determine which equipment you qualify for and what your level of reimbursement will be.

If I didn’t get my chair from NSM, will you will you fix it?

First, try to get your equipment repaired by the company that provided it. They are the most knowledgeable about your condition and equipment. If they are no longer a viable option, contact the NSM office closest to you to find out if we can service your equipment.

How do I know if a Rehab seating company is qualified?

Qualified companies have Rehab Technology Suppliers (RTS's) on staff who have been certified by the National Registry of Rehabilitation Technology Suppliers (NRRTS) and the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA). These seating and mobility professionals must pass rigorous testing and have several years of experience in the industry.  Ask the wheelchair providers you are considering for their credentials or contact one of the credentialing agencies (http://www.NRRTS.org or http://www.RESNA.org) for certification requirements.

Do I have to see a doctor to get a wheelchair?

In most cases, you don’t just kind of need a wheelchair.  Our clients – most of them severely physically challenged - are referred to us by therapists and physicians. If you need a wheelchair, your best course of action is to talk with your physician and get a thorough evaluation by a qualified RTS.

Do I have a choice of which wheelchair company to use?

The choice of a wheeled mobility supplier is yours. Discuss your decision with your physician and therapist.

Do you provide more than one kind of wheelchair?

Yes. NSM makes decisions about your equipment based on your need – NOT on products that are easily available or on-hand. NSM designs your system especially for you and then selects the proper components from over 300 suppliers with thousands of products to make sure that the equipment fits your needs and provides the therapeutic benefits prescribed by your doctor and/or therapist.

Do you make wheelchairs?

No, NSM does no manufacturing. And we aren’t owned by anyone. The result of this is that our RTSs can be purely objective in the pursuit of your care and free to design and choose the right equipment for your special needs.

Do you sell other home medical equipment?

NSM is the largest, dedicated provider of specialized seating and wheeled mobility products. It is our only business. We do not sell oxygen, beds, or any other home medical equipment, leaving us free to dedicate 100% of our services on the provision of custom-designed, wheeled mobility systems.
